St Peter’s Church and Peter Street
St Peter’s Church was where the first flare came down. It looks different now. It was in Castle Street then. There was an ice cream parlour Verrechia’s. It was a tiny little Italian place. Italy was against us of course. A lot of local Italian families were interned.
The Regent cinema was on the other side of the road. I saw the first talkie there.
The Regent was very, very small.
Yes it was small. The News Theatre was opposite it.
