The Siren Signs

For the first few months of the war there were no bombing raids in Bristol or elsewhere in Britain. This period is known as the Phoney War. The first air raid warning to sound over Bristol came at 12.15am on 25th June 1940. World War Two had arrived in the city.

The air raid lasted for over 2 hours. Bombs fell on Knowle, Bedminster, St. George, St. Philips, St. Pauls and Brislington. Five people were killed and 32 people were injured.
